This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • Very poor quality! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We leased a 2005 Jeep Cherokee Laredo and not only is it a lemon but the dealership will not let us out of the lease. It breaks down all the time. Dealer cannot fix any of the problems we have had with it. Not to mention, recently, while driving down the highway, a small pebble went through the grill and hit the transmission cooler (in front of the radiator - dont be fooled, they look exactly alike), and caused transmission fluid to spray all throughout our engine and vehicle and it almost caught on fire. If a small pebble can cause this it gets you wondering about the build quality of this vehicle. I dont expect too much more from the 2006 or 2006 either.

  • DONT DO IT! ! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I will never ask anyone to get this kind of vehicle! It was my dream car. I got mines from a dealership, saw car facts, clean title no accidents. Only 1 owner. really nice looking. This vehicle is not worth it. Too many mechanical problems. Once one thing messes up everything messes up! I was very good with keeping up with the car, but not even that could stop it. Out of the 2 1/2 years ive had it ive probably driven it for 8 months. At one point I had it parked for 2 months straight. Towed it to different mechanics not one could figure out what was wrong with it. Spent almost the same amount I paid for it. Fixing it. Its not reliable. It turned off on me 2 times on the hwy going 60. So scary!! Its was to the point where I could only turn it on 2 times a day & that was it. Till the next day it wouldnt turn on. It would stall, battery would drain every other day. I had re wiring done still wouldnt work. Nothing sucked more then getting stuck in traffic because the truck would turn off. It was just too much. I would not recremend this vehicle. Worst decision ever.

  • Do Not Buy This Vehicle - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Major issues with this vehicle. Ask a sales rep about choosing between an 04 or 05 and theyll tell you the new models are unreliable. The transmission on my vehicle has been serviced by the dealership 4 times. Grinds into gear, sluggish, and does not shift often. The indicators state an issue with the 4wd is present and flashes a warning often. Several dealerships were unable to fix the problem. As well, this vehicle gets absolutely no gas mileage. Approximately 12 MPG at best. Being 62", one might assume this vehicle would be large enough; however, Jeep has decreased the amount of headroom making this SUV very uncomfortable. As well, the seats give terrible backaches.

  • Auto transmission problems - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

In November 2006 I purchased a used Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD. It only had 10,000 miles on it. I immediately began having problems with the automatic transmission with the following problems: (1) Needed a transmission control module; (2) clogged transmission filter; (3) leaking O rings and finally had to have the transmission replaced at 18,000 miles. The car left us stranded twice on the highway. The second time I thought the car would catch on fire. I will never purchase a Chrysler product again. I dont care what their warranty period is. This is the poorest quality on construction I have ever seen in an automobile.

  • Stay Away - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I purchased a used 2005 Grand Cherokee with the HEMI and it is the biggest joke on the road, if it ever gets on the road. It is a disgrace to the HEMI and Mopar brand. I test drove it, and all was great. I bought it, brought it home (20 miles from the dealer), and it promptly died. It took 3 days to get the idiotic thing started again. Every time you put the key in and try to start it, the language of the display keeps changing. First, it was English. After that, it went to Spanish, German, and what I think was Portuguese. It hasnt gotten back to English, yet. I set all the setting like the seat position and pedal distance for me, but it keeps flipping back to factory settings. When trying to get back to the dealership, it sputtered the whole way, and had a horrible rattling ion the back end somewhere. I would never buy another used one, and it has pretty much soured me to the whole Jeep brand, unless we talk old school 2-door Cherokees and any of the CJs. This thing is proof that Jeep should have never strayed from its roots. Its like when VW started making water-cooled cars, which are just as worthless.
